Another decent weekend ride with Scabbington and Elaine. This time testing our mindset in pouring rain, pretty much all day. 45mile round from Tissington to Parsley Hay to Middleton Top on the Tissington and High Peak trails and then by road to Ashbourne. Had a cup of tea to warm up at Parsley Hay just as weather really deteriorated and cloud came down as we got towards Middleton Top so it got really cold. Lunched there and went back out into lighter rain. Epic downhill into Ashbourne with Sarah and I slip streaming our way past each other down the hill. Had tea and cake at a nice florist/cafe and then headed the last few miles back. Pointless hill out of Ashbourne back onto the trail and drying kecks were really chaffing now. Had a real go at the steep hill back to our campsite and felt suitably knackered afterwards. Great ride, pity about the weather. Not sure we're going to get any decent rides in between now and starting so that may be it for significant training. Will need to keep fitness up on the odd little ride.
Saddle has really changed shape now thanks to the long ride in the wet. Looks a bit odd now

I concur, the weather was very very wet. I have never tasted a grit trail so extensively as it was picking up on my front wheel and flicking up into my face. Got a very good system going for opening gates, which involved a forerunner going out in a sprint to get to the gate first so that all of the other riders could get through without any deceleration. Good training cycle with reasonable no. of miles although not really challenging from a hill perspective. Next stop (or rather start!) LEJOG!!!!
