Day 9 back into the stormaway

We woke to yet another glorious day but with a strong north easterly for the third day running. This meant the west to east route back to stornoway would be more demanding than the way out. Surprisingly the first third had a tail wind and we sailed through nicer country than we remembered from two days ago. Once we hit the head of the loch the wind dug in and things became more difficult. We worked well as a peleton until just before lunch when differing energy levels split us a bit. Stopping in a grassy hollow out the wind it became very hot. The sky was cloudless and views to harris perfect. the afternoons road was lovely with lochs and moorland. Greylag geese and lapwings were seen many times. A cuckoo flew in front of us too. Still fighting the wind we got back to stornoway with a brief tantalising view of the sutherland mountains. Will shortly be heading into town to sample its sunday fare. We will see what is open. last ride of the trip. Cyclocamping is great. distance today: 55 km total distance: 450 km no good downhills
